On that side of the world a woman will create a life that she cannot care for. On this side of the world there are a husband and wife dreaming of that life, their son, that will soon be growing in the belly of an Ethiopian woman. The beauty of it is sometimes so overwhelming. These are people who have so much love to give, so many things to teach. And with thick Minnesotan accents they will read their son bedtime stories and tell him that nothing could every make their love stop. A being not yet in existence, born of a stranger, becoming son. They will teach him to fly, they will stop at nothing to open his mind to a whole new world. Another world is being made possible with each word they speak into his life, with each step he takes.
I think about him too. I pray that he feels the love even as he is developing in the womb. I pray that he would know that there are a whole slew of folks eager to become a part of his life, myself included. I hope he grows, flourishes within the context of this communal revolution. I want him to hear our songs for him, our hopes. Because even as he will be their son, he is also our brother. And that is what makes this whole thing that much more beautiful, that much more like love growing and taking root in our hearts.
On that side of the world a miracle is happening. On this side of the world so much awaits him.
